Astronomy Questions and more for LGDSO members and visitors alike! / dew heaters
« Last post by Raymond Locke on February 05, 2022, 03:48:50 PM »
Does anyone know how to make/reguate a dew heater for a Celestron 9.25?  I dont mind spending 80$ for the heater but not $500 for a controller and power supply??
My plan is to buy the ring dew heater from Celestron or HIgh Point and run it to a small 12vdc power pack of 2.8MAh.  I could put  one of my a variable resistors in line to control the voltage.

Any other suggestions as to how to control dew?  I do have and use the long dew shield.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Don't think I'll need it as I was very careful to use register marks and put the collector plate back exactly.  But I will check again if we ever get a clear night,...over50 degrees.

After investigation and finally a decent reply from Celestron, It appears...and they admit....that the spots that have rings like Saturn...might be mold growth.  This may come from my storing the telescope in a non-air conditioned space ( my garage/workshop) allowing this summer's excessive humidity to make stuff grow!!     They sent me this link on how to store it.

However, with help from Sean and You Tube, I felt confident enough to clean the inside of my collector.  Worked fine...and now to check the collimation!

Thanks…that 9.25 scope fits into my sweet spot..11 to large, and 8 may be smaller than I’m looking for…thanks for the heads up on pricing increase…I’ll get on line and order tomorrow..Joe

Joe, that's something you would have to buy on line from an internet dealer. I always recommend High Point or B&H Photo. That's a long lead time Joe. You might wait as long as a year to get one, and only then if you place your order and get in line.
