Thanks Ed..I’m looking at the celestron edge 9.25 with the focal reducer-Joe

Hi Joe. The old fashioned way. You have to go to their gift shop which is inside the Museum main entrance. If you are going to the gift shop you don't need to pay any admission fee. They will sell you the telescope right there and off you go. They do carry a few nice models under $500. I'm told they sold out of their 6" Dobs last week. The best sellers are their Starsense Explorer models.

Ed, how do you purchase through the Bishop? Joe

Whoops, hit the post button too soon. Whopping price increases are coming next month as inflation comes to our little corner of the economy.

If you didn't get that telescope you wanted for Christmas, be sure to buy before early January. Either locally at the Bishop Gift Shop or on line at your favorite retailer,

Ray:
Did these spots "just show up" recently or have they been there the whole time? How long ago did you notice these as I know you've had the scope for a while.

Send me an E mail and I'll see if I can pull any strings to defray costs. No promises. emcdonough@celestron.com.

The front glass of my telescope has small imperfections/or blemishes on the inside.  There are about 20 of them scattered all around.  Dont know how anything woulld get on the inside as I keep the back cap on all  the time.  And scope is contained in this toolcase all the time.
So I sent a request for a warranty replacement/repair.............and Celestron sent me this!

"Looks like it needs to be cleaned.
We do that, you would need to send your OTA in.

For a EDGE 9.25" it is $300+ shipping to Clean, lubricate, collimate,
do a complete corrector alignment & perform a final evaluation."

It looks like they want me to repackage the who telescope and pay $300.  Sounds like a lot of repackaging and $500 or so!!!

So the question is:  why wont they replace a the glass lens/how would dirt get on the inside/why cant I just take it our and clean it myself/ etc
Help!!!  Would the local Celestron Rep help since he can see what the problem is.  Or can someone look at it for me?

Hi Raymond,

I'm not a huge fan of the focus knobs on the back of SCTs as they are *very* prone to image shift... which isn't an issue at low power/wide field, but becomes a huge, annoying problem at higher power when you go to adjust the focus and your target "image shifts" right out of the field of view! And for astrophotography, image shift will quickly have you pulling your hair out.

On my Celestron CPC1100, I have an aftermarket focuser (pictured) that includes knobs for both course-focus and fine or "micro" focus. This type of focuser (and there are a variety of them out there at many price points), not only makes it easier to tweak to a fine focus, it also eliminates the image shift issue because it no longer uses the movement of the primary mirror to achieve focus.

That said, I did not remove the original focus knob (or lock it), since I still occasionally use it for a very course focus at the start of an observing session.

Good luck!

Has anyone replaced or indexed the focusing knob?  I think that I'd like to replace mine with one of the large toothed type on E bay ( glow in the dark??) to get an easier focus.  And when I change lenses, I dont know which way to turn the focus....help?
